OK, place your bets, who is going to get the piece of bread that is lying in the water at the centre of the photograph. The female Swan (top right of the image) looks to be favourite as she is closest and has got her eyes firmly fixed on the bread. The immature Black-headed Gull looks a long way away at this point and has to be fearful of the big ugly Swan.
The Swan is definitely closer now.
Or is she.
Could still go either way, the Swan's beak is definitely in the water and surely the gull doesn't stand a chance now.
Still don't know for certain.
There you go, always bet on the gull, they are crafty as a bag load of monkeys.
If you thought it was going to be the Swan, then you were just too Gull-ible.{:))
Yep. My money would always be on the gull too.
ReplyDeleteThanks John.

DeleteAlways bet on the gull is right. They're quite famous in Helsinki for stealing food from people's hands.
ReplyDeleteThis one made me smile with anticipation all the way through...but I had my bets on the gull too ;)

DeleteThe Black Headed gulls at Poole Park are very watchful, if they see you walking with a bag, especially a plastic shopping bag and see you put your hand inside your shopping bag, they emmediately start squawking, letting all their mates know that a human is here with a plastic shopping bag and has just put their hand in the bag, it could only mean one thing, food. They associate plastic shopping bag with bread that is going to be thrown for them.
ReplyDeleteYes I remember them Lyn. {:))
DeleteA brilliant series of shots Roy, well described. I enjoyed that.
ReplyDeleteThanks John.
DeleteHaha great captures! Of course the gull got the bread..... :-)
