Departing Chiffies

Chiffchaffs continue to make their way South to warmer climes.
However, some do remain in the Southern most part of England over winter.
I was fortunate enough to find a good spot in the Parkland this week where I could observe several continously feeding up on insects in nearby trees.

  1. Good clear shots of this bird Roy.
Still a few around my local patch at the moment.

  2. I heard one yesterday well away from their usual habitat so maybe it was moving closer to the coast ready to depart.

  7. Roy, your chiffchaff looks just a wee bit like our orange-crowned warblers. Where do they go for the winter? How nice to see them before they go!

  8. Great photos! They seem to stay around these parts (Brittany) until quite late and I often see them perched on plants eating seeds in the autumn, whereas in the spring I rarely see them, just hear them and see distant flitting up in the trees. My hubby has heard them singing a few times recently although I haven't. Seems odd as most birds stopped singing at the end of July. They particularly like my bronze fennel in summer when it is flowering and full of insects and I've seen the little tinkers dash out to eat MY bugs in the flower beds! :-)

  9. Hi Roy, A Chiffchaff has been visiting my garden this week, saw it today, lovely bird. At this time of the year I do see either a Chiffchaff or a Willow Warbler in my garden. I look at their legs to identify which one it is.
