Silver-washed Fritillary (2)

The first time I have been able to capture Silver-washed Fritillary mating.

Here are some near misses, but excuse the poor quality of the images.
This is what happens when you are lining up a shot of one still butterfly and another suddenly flies into the camera view, consequently you don't have the right setting to capture the speed of butterfly wings.

  1. HI Roy These re wonderful shots and I don't mind one butterfly being slightly out of focus as it gives a more realistic idea of motion. I have never seen this butterfly in the wild so it is lovely to see the many position you have captured them in,including mating. Fantastic!

I just wanted you to know that I have nominated you for the Liebster Award. Details will be on my post soon today. I hope you will participate. Have a great day. Margaret
    Anyway,

  2. Great find and shots of the coupled pair Roy, right place/right time...for all three of you!!

I really like the second set of 'action' shots, I think the 'movement' of the incoming butterfly definitely adds something to the images. We all take photographs of 'static' butterflies but these images add a new dimension!...Excellent!...[;o)

  4. More superb photos and I have to say I personally really like the 'action' shots (especially the fifth one) :-) As I've never seen any species of Fritillary in the 'wild' I have doubly enjoyed these two posts :-)

I haven't managed to even see one let alone taking pics!
That is where one can truly see the difference between the male and the female!
    Well done!

  6. Poor quality of the images? These are great. It's tough enough to get one at a time, never mind trying to get two!

  7. Hey Roy...It looks like there may be another good year for them !! Great timing ..."love is in the air"! ; )

Those that you think are not so great are fantastic..love the playful artistic look of them!! I have favorites #3,5,6, and the last !! Might as well have said they are all excellent!!

  8. Hi Roy, There you're again with beautiful butterflies!! Never seen them before and they are so nice. I'm glad you can capture so many, in The Netherlands it's really a bad year for butterflies, I don't see many in my environment.

Never mind that some pictures are not 100% sharp, therefore they have wings....

    Kind regards,
    Marianne

You appear to be having the bad year that we had last year.

  9. Great photos of the Silver-washed Fritillary Roy. I have such a hard time taking decent photos of butterflies and am always impressed with yours. I chased a Blue Morph all around the butterfly garden once. He must have been me coming or something!!!

I mentioned to Gregg about the yellow socks, and he said that he had consulted his fashion designer (Walmart) and they told him white was his best color for summer. Also I've been trying to get him to be less conservative for years, don't you like this tie, don't you love this color shirt? His reply, Beau Brummel I am not ;) Ah well, never stop trying, ha, ha! Since he's retired it's been nothing but 't' shirts and shorts, which I quite like. I'm sure in the winter it will be sweats, probably dark grey. Have a good one!
