Meadow Brown Butterfly

The Meadow Brown was one of the few species that did well last year after the rain soaked Spring and Summer. Its a long grass dweller and there was plenty of that.

I shot these few images last week in an open field.

Check out the female below that appears to be laying some of her eggs.
It lays on grass or just drops the eggs to the ground.

  2. Lovely photos as always Roy. Fascinating to see the egg laying. I too noticed how well they did last year unlike so many other butterflies.

The Dog Roses on the post below are beautiful too and the Bee Orchid stunning. Summer at last!

Roy I definitely left a comment on your Marbled White post yesterday around lunchtime in which I also mentioned the posts from the rest of the week. The only thing I can think of is could It have got into Blogger's spam file? I know that happened with a comment I left on someone else's blog once for some unknown reason.

  3. Lovely photos of the Meadow Brown, and fantastic to capture the female laying eggs. That is good news about these butterflies doing well; I've certainly seen many here in the past week.
