Marbled White Surprise

It was a pleasant surprise to find at least two Marbled White butterflies yesterday at a location where they are known to exist, but not this early in the year. Although generally they are due to be flying at this time, I have not recorded them quite so early as this at the location.

I have posted the best two of the hurried shots I took. Being males they were certainly on the move most of the time. One had to keep following them around in the hope they would pitch, which was very infrequently. I do hope they slow up a little later on so that I can get some better images.

  2. Good to see these beauties on the wing again. Hopefully the forecast fine weather for much of July should ensure a good year for them :-)

  4. HI Roy Well you did get some good shots. It must be a bit frustrating when trying to photograph these butterflies that rarely stay in one place for long. I have never seen this butterfly and it is stunning. We just don't get the variety of butterflies in N. Ireland that you seem to get. Margaret

Got one male too, it is pre-programmed for in a few days!
I see much less this season also, this very weird wearther has taken a toll on most of our european fauna, a pity.
    Enjoy your weekend!
