Clouded Yellow 2026

The Clouded Yellow Butterfly 2026

What an amazing year for the Clouded Yellow this year has been. I live in the Southern part of the County of Dorset near the coast. Today 18th October I have observed and photographed at least eight in number of this species. This date above is at the extreme latter end of the life cycle of this butterfly. The weather (although sunny at times) was quite windy and the temperature at best was about 10 celsius.

I have mentioned in the past that if I see one or two in a year, I regard myself as very fortunate.
I guess that next year we will come back down to earth and see hardly any.

I believe this particular butterfly below is a female of the pale (Halice form). Up to 15% of females can be of this form.

  1. I got the shock of my life when I found one a few hundred yards from my house in shrubs by the side of a road on an estate! Lovely to see aren't they

    1. HI Pete, yes they are amazing. I am still seeing them now. Apparently Dorset was one of the locations that many were seen throughout the life cycle.
