I found and photographed three of this species in the last few days.
They appeared to have overwintered well. I believe by their actions, that they were all males.
This species emerge as a butterfly in July and lasts through Winter hibernation until the next Spring.
Mainly a woodland edge butterfly and common throughout out most of UK.

DeleteBeautiful :-) Most over-wintering butterflies seem to have come through the season well this year don't they, indeed some almost look fresh !!!

DeleteI still have a tough time accepting that you are much further north that we are and you are already shooting wonderful bugs! I saw my first crocus today, that is how far we are behind you.
