…...and you can guess who is interested.
The Bullfinch, amongst others.
As usual you can see they make life difficult by hiding amongst the bushes.
I shot most of these images across a river and was only able to get closer for a few shots, even then they were never really in the clear. They were having quite a feast though. Two males and a female.
The female is the dull coloured version of the male as shown at the bottom of this image below.
ah wat geweldig je hebt ze toch maar mooi meestal hoor ik ze en als ik ze dan ontdekt zijn ze gelijk weer weg.
ReplyDeleteZe zijn niet erg coöperatief Bas.
Deletethey're a super fabulous looking bird Roy
ReplyDeleteThey are indeed Carole, but getting them to come out in the open is hopeless most of the time.
DeleteThe male has flower parts stuck on his bill, like someone with spinach stuck between their teeth. They do add a bit of cheerful color to the pre-spring landscape.
ReplyDeleteGlad to see signs of Spring. Beautiful birds
ReplyDeleteThanks Kathryn.
DeleteThe Bullfinch is a very striking bird. Great shots, impressive considering they were in such a tangle of branches. Have a great weekend Roy, and I hope the weather has calmed down considerably over there.
ReplyDeleteThanks Denise. The weather forecast has said it will start to calm down now thank goodness.
DeleteTerrific photos, Roy. I still haven't seen a Bullfinch (male or female) for ages. I just hope we do have some around here, now.
ReplyDeleteThanks Wendy. Yes they are quite thin on the ground now.
DeleteHey Roy... Love those colors, he sure is a snazzy dresser : )
ReplyDeleteLove he photo's!! The female sure is a bit hard to see in that brush!!
Grace
Thanks GG. Yes, I don't get many decent shots of the female.
DeleteAnd fabulous shots nontheless Roy, great captures!
ReplyDeleteThanks Maree.
DeleteHi Roz,
ReplyDeleteThis is one the prettiest little birds!
Considering how difficult it is to get close unless you're in a hide, I think these pics are great!
Rotten winter and no cold spell, now it is quite mild and plants are budding! Strange happenings!!
Thanks Noushka, yes weird weather we are having.
DeleteVery nice this Bullfinch. In my neighborhood, unfortunately, he does not fly, but the picture I see them fortunately :-)
ReplyDeleteHello Roy !
ReplyDeleteI have never seen this bird, but what he is beautifu l!!
Hi Nathalie, yes they are special and I don't get to see them enough.
DeleteLovley photos - bullfinches seem pretty rare these days.
ReplyDeleteThanks Alison, yes I can only be fairly certain of finding them in a couple of places now.
DeleteEven then they take some finding.
Love these....what a fat marvelous little bird with unusual colors.
ReplyDeleteThanks Mary, yes they are pretty special.
