Linnet

Walking along a pathway lined on both sides by very high bushes, I could hear a certain bird song coming from the top of the tall bushes which I had not heard for a while.
This was coming from a small flock of Linnet (Carduelis cannabina).

As I moved closer they would fly off and perch again further along the pathway.
I was eventually able to shoot a few record images through the branches.

  1. Lovely little bird - I find them difficult to distinguish from redpolls.

  2. How lovely to see Roy. I haven't seen one for about eight years and I certainly didn't have time to get a picture of it!

  8. Hi Roy

I have encountered Linnets in literature, it is nice to put a face to the name.

    1. Thanks Guy, yes I don't quite know why they featured so much, maybe the name suits prose.

  12. I don't think I have ever seen one, not to distinguish anyway. And how come your skies are so blue in East Anglia?

  15. I'm really envious of people who can recognize birds from their calls and songs. I wouldn't change much of my life if I could go back and start again but one thing I would do is to start learning to recognize birds and their songs when I was young.

    1. I think its a matter of going out and seeing birds regularly and matching the call with the bird.
Of course it takes a while and I only know certain birds because I have seen them a lot in the past.

  16. Great shot, I can tell when I hear a bird singing that it might be different , but struggle sometimes to put the name to the bird... The more you go out the more you learn little by little...

    I'll have to watch out!
    Congrats, Roy!

  18. Lovely little bird. I too, envy those who recognize the calls of different birds. I know a few really obvious ones, but so many I can't remember.
