We are fortunate to have some colourful resident species of the 'Finch' family.
The Goldfinch in particular is very colourful and makes a good subject for photographs.
I was watching a small flock feeding and flying to and from trees.
What really shows up when they fly are the flash of yellow on their wings.
Seeds form a major part of their diet and they are expert at finding them in a variety of flora.
oooh you picked up some beautiful photographs of this one Roy; what a thrill for the photographer when checking them out on the computer too.
ReplyDeleteThanks Carole.
DeleteHI Roy. Yes a lovely finch and great to watch it feeding. The light in these great shots is stunning.

DeleteI love goldfinches, they are in my garden every day feeding on the niger seed that I put out. They are a lovely splash of colour on a dark winter's day.

DeleteI've had some Goldfinch feeding in the garden this last week, there are allot at the park. When I first moved here I do not remember seeing any but there are good numbers now all year round. They can look like they are wearing dark sunglasses ....
ReplyDeleteThey flock together now at this time Amanda and I remember seeing a flock of approx 100 once at this time of year. Amazing sight to see with the yellow flash on the wings. Yes I like the description.{:))
DeleteLovely photos of the Goldfinches - such a beautiful little bird. Seeing them on the teasels does show that we shouldn't be tidying up last year's 'dead' flowers just yet.
ReplyDeleteThanks Wendy. Its one place you will be sure to find them at this time year.
