Goldfinch

We are fortunate to have some colourful resident species of the 'Finch' family.

The Goldfinch in particular is very colourful and makes a good subject for photographs.
I was watching a small flock feeding and flying to and from trees.
What really shows up when they fly are the flash of yellow on their wings.

Seeds form a major part of their diet and they are expert at finding them in a variety of flora.

  3. I love goldfinches, they are in my garden every day feeding on the niger seed that I put out. They are a lovely splash of colour on a dark winter's day.

  6. I've had some Goldfinch feeding in the garden this last week, there are allot at the park. When I first moved here I do not remember seeing any but there are good numbers now all year round. They can look like they are wearing dark sunglasses ....

  7. Lovely photos of the Goldfinches - such a beautiful little bird. Seeing them on the teasels does show that we shouldn't be tidying up last year's 'dead' flowers just yet.

  13. Great sighting and pictures of my favorite passerine bird... for having hand-raised quite a few when I was young!
They are absolutely gorgeous, have much character and sing more beautifully when hand-raised than in the wild!
    Great post, I love it!
