The Blackbird (Turdus merula)

The Blackbird is one of our resident species, but we do get a lot of migration from mainland Europe during Autumn and Winter.

  3. It seems to be mainly Blackbirds here which are after the red berries.

  4. Great shot, the Starlings have been going round on mass, finding a tree with berries and stripping them till they are all gone. At the park Blackbird is the most seen at the moment going through the leaf litter.

    1. Thanks Amanda, I am hoping to see Waxwing doing the same this winter, but doubt it somehow.

  5. I bet the birds are glad the Waxwings aren't here in numbers yet. More berries to go round. :-)

  6. Plenty of blackbirds, fieldfares and redwings out on the bushes when I visited Wicken fen on Saturday, though the berries in the towns and villages seem to be largely untouched at the moment. Guess this will change if harsher weather arrives.

  7. nice set of pics.

I am a fan of the blackbird. On a warm summer's evening you open the window and the song of the blackbird is sublime
