Pied Learners

A parent Pied Wagtail teaching her immature how to search for food on low grassland.
You can see that the parent has the dishevelled appearance of a bird that has spent much time recently rearing young.

This one looks fed and in good condition already and can stand on one leg as well....

.....as does this one.

They can still be a bit reluctant at times and adopt the sitting position waiting for food to be brought to them, which incidentally didn't happen.

"Look this is how you do it."

Scenes from a Parkland Walk

More of what I observe during my walk around the local Parkland.

Chiffchaffs were observed in the tree lines around the lakes feeding up before the long journey South

The Red Admiral Butterfly gathering food.

This Woodie was helping himself to elderberries

A Comma Butterfly gathering heat from the intermittent sunshine.

Another round of Common Tern feeding.

Southern Hawker

Migrant Hawker

A Mute Swan preening.

More fish feeding, this time it was a Great-crested Grebe.

More shots for David at http://grosmontine.blogspot.co.uk/
of those ghastly smokey metal things on iron wheels.{:))

Brassicae

=Health Warning=
Vegetable Gardeners of a nervous disposition avert your eyes now

The Large White Butterfly (Pieris brassicae).

The emphasis is on the latin name of Brassicae. The Cabbage is from the "Brassica" family of vegetables. These images are of a female Large White and her aim in life now is to lay as many eggs as possible.
A favourite place would be under cabbages laying a neat stack of eggs under the leaves.

Whitethroat

I observed a family of Whitethroat moving about the hedgerow with two immature amongst them the other day. I guess they will be making their way South any day now, if they haven't already gone.
