Another Butterfly

A short visit to Radipole Reserve today.

Purple Loosestrife

I found three female Brimstone butterflies feeding on Purple Loosestrife.
It is quite unusual to find three butterflies in one location at the moment.

  3. Those are some quite wonderful portraits of the Woody. I seem to have seen very few butterflies this year.

  4. They are wonderful photos of the butterflies in flight, and with their wings open. Please can you tell me what kind of speed you used to capture them in flight? I have never tried to actually shoot one in flight, so when they fly off the flower I get fairly blurry images of course, because I am concentrating on them not moving. I really should set my speed fast and see what happens. :-)

    1. Hi Mandy. Thanks. I set the camera on the speed setting. That is 'S' on my cameras. On some cameras it is 'TV'.
You need to set the spoeed to at least 1/2500. With Dragonflies and Damselflies in flight it would be at lleast 1/4000 up to 1/6000. See spme of my previuos post on this Blog and on my Flickr site.
