Small Tortoiseshell

My first Butterfly (Photographed) of the Spring.
This year its the turn of the Small Tortoiseshell.
I found several feeding on Lesser Celandines beside a river bank.
Some are in better condition than others, but overall they appear to have survived the Winter quite well.

  1. Isn't it great to see the first butterflies in spring?!!
Some of those look like "oldies" from last season, I bet they are in a hurry to lay the 2017 first generation!!
    Lovely post, Roy!

  4. Oh That Is Lovely!!! It is too cold here for the butterflies. I had a friend who was hatching out some and we needed a bleeding heart leaf for it to live but the tiny caterpillar died anyway. The color and detail of these shots is really amazing Roy.
