Wigeon

As is normal for this time of year the Wigeon have returned to the local Parkland Lakes in quite some numbers.
A very colourful species of Duck and I never pass up the chance to photograph them.
Between April and July they breed in Northern Europe and migrate South West in Winter particularly England.
Icelandic breeders relocate to Scotland and Ireland.

The images below were taken on a different day in the late afternoon.

  2. I do love Wigeon, their whistling calls being so much a part of the winter landscape, and you have some beautiful pics here Roy. The rich warm colours of their plumage looks wonderful in the winter sunshine :-)

  3. Roy, it's always good to see, and hear, these colourful winter visitors. There's not been the usual large numbers in this area this year though!...[;o)

  4. Great birds but shy, I remember spooking a flock of a couple of hundred into the air at Cotham Flash, whistling away! You must have a bloody good long lens!

  7. Perfect shots as always. They look so close and real that I feel like I am there. I haven't been doing much blog checking, but yours is always one of the first I come back to when I do, because you take such great photos and have great variety as well.
