Whoopers

The Whooper Swan (Cygnus cygnus) is certainly my favourite swan species by far. 
I was very fortunate to find this group of four on a local fenland river.
A graceful species that visit UK in winter flying in from Iceland in September and departing in March.

This species is quite different from our resident Mute swans and more family orientated. From what I understand it is nothing like as territorial and remains together in family groups.

      They took off in front of me circled around and did a flypast in front of me again.{:))

  9. Lovely (flight) shots Roy. I can almost hear them when I see your photo's! It's nice to see them 'run' on the water.
    Unfortunately I missed them this winter :(
    I think they are already going back to their breeding grounds.
