First Spring Butterflies

Having recently visited the local Woodland Reserve where no images of butterflies were observed, I decided to return the next day when brilliant sunshine and some warmth should encourage the Spring butterflies out into the open.

Sure enough I found four species as shown below.

Brimstone

Small Tortoiseshell

Peacock

Comma

  1. I've seen several Brimstones but not much else yet - but it can't be long now till the others appear. It's all rather different from last March!

  7. Super set of images Roy, you did well to get the Brimstone 'perched'...the ones that I've seen (mostly males) have been non stop zooming around like they're on an important mission !!...[;o)

  8. A lovely sight to see Roy.
    That Brimstone is a beauty.

I've only seen a couple so far; an overwintering Peacock, that woke up, and a Small Tortoiseshell.

  9. Good to see! We've spotted the odd one while out walking. Hope the promised cold doesn't set them back too much.

  10. Beautiful photos of the butterflies. I love the Brimstone feeding from the dandelion. I've been fortunate to see all these as well in the last few days, plus a couple of Speckled Woods. I hope it keeps warm and dry so that we have a good butterfly spring.

  12. It's a nice butterfly-related collection of colours and shapes. :)
I also like the beauty of the dandelion, it's still too cold here for them to start growing.

  13. I have heard you've been having some nice weather. Glad to see you're making the most of it with these lovely finds. Spring won't be too long and I hope our latest snowfall is the last of it. I can't wait to see the butterflies fluttering by again.

  14. HI Roy What a wonderful series of butterflies, all great shots. It is wonderful how the sun brings them out. I have seen a Red Admiral in N.Ireland on Saturday but it was speeding so no chance of a shot. Looking forward to seeing more butterflies this year.
