Bullfinch

Shooting through a leafy hedge I was able to capture a few shots of this female Bullfinch.

Of course the male being his usual cooperative self, decided to stay secreted behind foliage.

NB: Since shooting these images I have been able to obtain more from another part of the Parkland so will be posting them when I can get around to it. On that occasion both males and females were a little more cooperative.

  2. I really love the Bullfinch, just that scarce enough to make it special when you see one, although, it is special to see any bird! The first photo, in particular is lovely, framed by the leaves!

  5. They are little devils for keeping just out of clear view. Still good shots though.

    1. Thanks Steve.
They have featured in many ways artistically, because they are so colourful I guess.

  8. Passerines in general are hard to shoot, so I think you did well with the male even!

  9. I am lucky????
    Look what you've got here!!
These Bullfinches are so scarce where I live that it is a miracle to manage a couple of shots!
    And you got both sexes!
    Congratulations, Roy!!

  10. ...such a cool looking bird. I love the "beefy" feel of the bird. Is that where the name bullfinch comes from?

    1. I think it was because it has a bullish neck being a very stocky bird Kelly.{:))
