More Mr Robin (Redbreast)

Following on from my recent post showing Robin portraits, here are a few more of the bird that features  a lot on greeting cards, wrapping paper and just about everything else to do with Christmas.
Thankfully the Robin is one bird that provides something to photograph at this very lean time of the year for bird photography for most of us.

A Deer Surprise

Reverting to my former Somerset vernacular.
"I'd seen he before he'd seen I."

During my recent Parkland walk I was slowly moving down a slope in a woodland area which leads to an open circular inlet of water at the edge of the largest lake. Having reached the bottom I stopped to survey the area. I was dressed all in green and matched my background quite well. This must have been the case as about 50 metres ahead of me a Muntjac Deer emerged from behind a willow tree and moved from my left to right across my field of view. Having learned the lesson from a previous occasion relating to deer, I have a preset setting on my camera that allows for a silent shutter action. So this was put into action and I got off several shots before the deer moved out of view. I retraced my steps and left the area, although I was sure that he had seen me eventually as can be seen with his alert look on the last shot.

Redwing

Another one of our Winter visitors from the Scandinavian countries.
The Redwing from the Thrush family is often observed along with flocks of Fieldfare. I normally observe them in ones and twos and only occasionally with Fieldfare.

This is the a Redwing showing off his 'Red' wing, which is more orange than red I think, depending how the light catches it.

Return to the Rowan Tree

I said in a previous post after visiting some Rowan Trees in the Parkland that I must return there again, as there was plenty of bird feeding activity and if I did so on a brighter day that would be an advantage.

This is the result of my visit and as you can see the male Bullfinch was putting in a stirling performance.

Red Berries and Black Birds

The Blackbird (Turdus merula)

The Blackbird is one of our resident species, but we do get a lot of migration from mainland Europe during Autumn and Winter.
