A local walk around the edge of Maiden Castle (site of ancient hill fort) which is about 2 miles from where I live, proved to be quite interesting with a good variety of birds and butterflies.
A bird I dont get to see much around jere is the Whitethroat.
This female Brimstone was in the process of egg laying.
A good specimen of Common Blue was observed in long hillside grass.
The tiny Small Heath were quite numerous around the area.
This below is a rare view of the Small Heath's upperwings.
I believe this to be a Garden Warbler. I have not seen one for several years and unfortunately it wasn't singing to assist with my identification. So I could be wrong.
This really small immature Wren was a joy to find and photograph.
Three is a crowd.
