Dragonflies - Norfolk Hawker - Black-tailed Skimmer

It is that time again when the Dragonflies start to emerge.

I was able to shoot two species this week. The Norfolk Hawker and the Black-tailed Skimmer.
I have included 'Specific' and 'Habitat' images.

The flight period of the Norfolk Hawker is from May through to August. The male and female are quite smilar in colour from a distance. A good indicator is, the male has a waist whereas the female does not. Its size is approximately 67mm in length.

The flight period of Black-tailed Skimmer is from April to September. The female is easily identified from the grey/black bodied male, as it is yellow in colour. Its size ranges from 44 to 49 mm.
I was unable to find a female on this shoot.

A Butterfly Shoot - Cerne Abbas

One of my first trips to Cerne Abbas this year.
The species at this time is quite varied, ranging from the one that every one wants to catch a sight of - the Duke of Burgundy, a couple of Skippers, Green Hairstreak, Brown Argus and Small Heath.
I just missed getting a shot of the Marsh Fritillary, but I will catch up with that species sometime shortly I hope.
I have also inclueded a few scene images, which is typical of the County of Dorset.

Duke of Burgundy

Common Blue (Male)

Green Hairstreak

Dingy Skipper

Small Heath

I did get a poor shot of this species with its wings open as it was flying.

Not something to be seen very often.

Brown Argus

Green-veined White. (Male) Spring Brood
