Dragonflies - Norfolk Hawker - Black-tailed Skimmer

It is that time again when the Dragonflies start to emerge.

I was able to shoot two species this week. The Norfolk Hawker and the Black-tailed Skimmer.
I have included 'Specific' and 'Habitat' images.

The flight period of the Norfolk Hawker is from May through to August. The male and female are quite smilar in colour from a distance. A good indicator is, the male has a waist whereas the female does not. Its size is approximately 67mm in length.

The flight period of Black-tailed Skimmer is from April to September. The female is easily identified from the grey/black bodied male, as it is yellow in colour. Its size ranges from 44 to 49 mm.
I was unable to find a female on this shoot.

  2. Gorgeous! I haven't seen a Norfolk Hawker (not sure if they exist in these parts). I miss the dragons and damsels that I had back in Brittany!

    1. Thanks Mandy. They have only existed in this part of the World for about 4 years now. I only find them at Radipole Lake.
