Stonechat Returns

Last Autumn we were fortunate to find a male Stonechat on the Parkland where I visit regularly.
It remained over Winter and as it was quite approachable, was photographed by most of the local Birders and a lot of interested public as well. It left in the Spring of this year and probably headed North to the Summer breeding grounds.

Recently a pair of Stonechat have taken up residence in the same area of the Parkland.
Obviously we can't say its the same male who has found a mate and returned to its wintering ground, but one would like to think so.

    1. Thanks Petra. Yes small birds tend to plump up their feathers in the colder weather so as to keep warm.

  7. It's a shame the male isn't ringed, then you'd be able to tell for sure. Great images of this lovely little bird.

  8. Interesting name, I wonder how it came to be? Pretty little bird and great photos Roy. How nice that it doesn't flit away as quickly as other birds.

  12. Super pics Roy and fantastic news that Stonechats have again returned to your 'home patch'. It certainly does make you wonder whether the male is the same bird as last year!

Hope you are well and that the recent grandparent duties all went smoothly :-)
